Digifit latest startup to join MediaGuild

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Latest to join MediaGuild this August are Digifit, a talented, serious gaming initiative that seeks to contribute towards a trend of more conscious, healthy lifestyle. Within MediaGuild, they will expand their already working prototype, and take their technology to the market.
In their own wording:

The increase of obesity is a growing pain for western civilization. People suffering from overweight risk cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, arterosclerosis and specific forms of cancer, and have their toll on medical care. Whilst regular excercise offers an adequate solution, many people lack the intrinsic motivation to put this common wisdom into practice.

Digifit seeks to motivate people to work on their physical fitness by adding to the fun factor. Digifit is currently developing a fitness system tailored to use at home, which offers a challenging and easy to use fitness system for home use. The system consists of a device for motion tracking and software that offers instructions, and direct feedback on performance, in such a way that getting fit becomes a challenging and fun experience, offering a motivation for a more frequent and profound workout over time.

MediaGuild mini-coverage in Herald Tribune

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Below an excerpt from American Newspaper the Herald Tribune covering the PTA project, which involves Cisco, the Waag Society and MediaGuild, among others.

“In Amsterdam, I discovered a “Mediagilde” project of resourceful young professionals. They’re trying to adapt new GPS navigation systems to data feeds that give commuters transit options in real time — bus, tram and rail runs, routes and preferred connections by the minute, customized to the user’s location on mobile phone display.

The goal: making transit intensely user-friendly, expanding its market share against cars. The project, pushed by Rick Batelaan, senior transit policy adviser for Amsterdam, is linked to Cisco-backed “Connected Urban Development” projects in Seoul and San Francisco as part of the Clinton Global Initiative.

Against the target of a carbon-neutral future, are such efforts sufficient? No. But are they dramatic markers for us to emulate?
Answer for yourself.”
